Holy Corner is a community playgroup, creating long lasting friendships and finding that illusive village. All the families who are part of Playgroup are actively involved in the running of our setting. This includes volunteering for rota once a month (snack prep), joining the parent committee that helps run the playgroup and supporting our fundraising.
We work with families to find how and what they can contribute to Holy Corner. We are amazed at the vast array of skills that come into our space. We have had parents fixing broken cupboards, sharing songs from their heritage, telling stories in their mother tongues and sharing a love of art and creativity. We encourage families with multiple caregivers to get everyone involved, to share the volunteering and allow multiple family members to make those vital connections and friendships.
"I was finding parenthood incredibly lonely until we joined Holy Corner. Suddenly I knew twenty local friendly faces and had people I could go for coffee or swap babysitting services with. Absolute lifesaver."

Parent & Carer Rota
Each day, one parent or carer joins the session to lend a helping hand. Each parent helps out about once a month and is shown the ropes by a practitioner.
The main duties include preparing and serving snacks, helping with simple cleaning tasks, and keeping the playroom tidy and welcoming for the children. It is also a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand what the children enjoy during their day at playgroup.
As part of this role, parents and carers will join the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme. This is a free service, and we take care of the necessary paperwork. Expectant mothers in their third trimester, and parents with babies under six months old, are excused from rota duty.
Our Parent Committee
Our parent and carer committee meet regularly and have overall responsibility for the running of the playgroup, working with the administrator and playgroup manager. These meetings are usually on Zoom to attempt to navigate bedtimes. We ask that families attend a minimum of one meeting a term but encourage you to attend each month, as important decisions are discussed and voted on. Every family is automatically part of the parent committee and there is the opportunity to step up into a named officer role e.g. Chairperson, Secretary, Fundraising etc.
Fundraising & Community Events
Holy Corner Community Playgroup is a registered charity (SC017661), and we rely on fundraising and donations throughout the year to support the playgroup and ensure this valued service continues for local families for many years to come. Like many childcare settings, we have been affected by rising costs which we would rather cover through fundraising than astronomical fees.
Throughout the year we host a range of community events, including our annual Christmas Fayre and raffle - often supported by wonderful local businesses. We encourage families to bring fresh ideas to the fundraising aspect of HCCP. Previously people have run coffee mornings and marathons (though not at the same time).
